A new exhibition is now up in the foyer of Listasafn Reykjavíkur – Kjarvalsstaðir. Sculptures are on display in the windows of the museum building facing the Klambratún Park. Passers-by can enjoy the exhibition without going in - as the museum is currently closed to the public.
The exhibition Insiders draws its name from the work of Harpa Björnsdóttir, from 1999. She is one of the six artists behind the works in the exhibition, selected from the collection of the Reykjavík Art Museum. Björnsdóttir's Insiders are twelve, each carry their own symbol, forming a circle on the floor. The work is reminiscent of past worship of nature and is particularly relevant now that the sun has begun to rise. Other works are by Haraldur Jónsson, Hreinn Friðfinnsson, Ólöf Nordal and Sigurður Guðmundsson.
With this initiative, the museum meets one of its functions, which is to provide access to contemporary artworks and offer the opportunity to enjoy works of art despite the fact that all museums in the country are now closed..
