Haraldur Jónsson: Spectrum

Kjarvalsstaðir

-

This mid-career retrospective of Haraldur Jónsson‘s work, Spectrum, reflects the artist‘s unique position in the local art scene. His career is versatile and the media different, however the theme is always some sort of a distillation of human existence. For three decades he has examined everything related to how we sense our surroundings, process our experiences, express ourselves and communicate.

What is the relation between man and space, consciousness and environment?

Haraldur Jónsson was born in Finland in 1961. He studied at the Reykjavík College of Arts and Crafts in 1984-87, at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 1987-90 and was Meistarschüler in 1990. Jónsson‘s work has been exhibited in all major venues in Iceland and widely internationally. The exhibition Spectrum stretches out of the gallery and into the hallway of Kjarvalsstaðir, out to the neighbouring street Flókagata, the park Klambratún and further on. The exhibition is a part of the museum's aim to research and present the works of significant local artists and it is followed by an extensive catalogue and programme.
