 This international exhibition comprises works by seven artists:  Tomas Saraceno (Argentina), Ernesto Neto (Brazil), Ragna Róbertsdóttir (Iceland), Ryuji Nakamura and Rintaro Hara (Japan), Mona Hatoum (Lebanon) and Monika Grzymala (Poland). The artists make three-dimensional installations which share the qualities of reflecting a certain perception, thinking and rhythm, which may be seen as an echo of life itself, of primal forces, the structure of the fabric of the world and the ongoing genesis of the universe. Another factor which unites the works is that they are the result of a process in which energy and time appear to have built them up. Curator Ingibjörg Jónsdóttir.

Synthesis

 Kjarval has served as a historic source of inspiration for Andreas Eriksson. In his works, Eriksson points out, Kjarval “chose not only to bring himself closer to earth, lava and rock types, but also to concentrate equally on the oil paint…\[as if\] to honourably try to return the pigments to their origin.” For the exhibition Top Soil Eriksson has selected paintings and drawings by Kjarval, which will be shown along with new work by Eriksson himself in appreciation of Kjarval’s art.

Art museum on Miklatún: The opening of Kjarvalsstaðir

 **Sunday 25 January 2015 3 p.m.**  
The artists in the exhibition discuss their works.. A posteriori, or from what comes after (a translation from early 17th century Latin), presents, a selection of artworks with original references to buildings or houses. Artists in the exhibition have created the works, either from existing or fabricated architecture, to construct impressions of memories. As a feature of the exhibition, Ásmundarsafn, befittingly a sculpture and a house built by Ásmundur Sveinsson, becomes the embodiment of the reconstructed references. Ásmundur built the house in tandem with many of the sculptures now standing in the garden, and as an enhancing component of the exhibition, on display are smaller or actual versions of these figurative works. In addition to making a direct connection to their enlargements, these figurative sculptures play into actual perceptions of scale in the exhibition, both inside and outside the house.

A posteriori: House, Sculpture

 Since 1989, Erró has donated more than 700 collages to the Reykjavík Art Museum, a considerable collection and national treasure that continues to grow. Following the recent update to collages in the Erró collection, this exhibition presents these works alongside others that span the entirety of his vibrant art career. Throughout the exhibition, it is possible to trace Erró’s commitment to collage as a step to creating other artworks, and a means to continue to narrate unexpected stories.

Erró (b. 1932, Ólafsvík) lives and works in Paris, where he arrived in 1956 by way of Norway, Germany, and Italy. He was among the most prominent figures of the European avant-garde of the 1960s and is associated not only with the renewal of pictorial figuration, due to his invention of narrative collage-paintings, but also with the Happenings movement and experimental cinema. Although Erró’s work is often, rightly, attached to artistic groups like Surrealism, Narrative Figuration or Pop art, it cannot be reduced to any one of them.           Collage has formed the basis of Erró’s artworks for over sixty years, beginning early on with his Meca-Make-Up series in 1959-60, and resulting in more than 30,000 collages today.  Through collecting, cutting, pasting and then painting Erró has freely mixed and quoted found material, transforming it into dynamic, striking and jarring visual collisions. In doing so he lends new meaning to the abundance of images that can be gleaned and culled from history, current events, world influences and our everyday lives.

There are several parking spaces behind Hafnarhús on the Geirsgata side, which is accessible from Tryggvagata. There are also a number of parking spaces in the covered car park in Hafnartorg, which is accessible from Geirsgata and in the parking garage at Vesturgata 7. All of these are payable parking lots run by the City of Reykjavík.

There is an elevator between the floors of the museum, opposite the internal staircase on the ground floor.

**Chairs/sitting facilities**
The exhibitions change regularly, but you can usually expect to find benches to sit on in all the exhibition halls. If there is no bench, there are stools that visitors can request at the museum’s reception. 

**Multipurpose hall**
There is a multipurpose hall on the ground floor, facing the courtyard. There is no step to the multipurpose hall.

**Guided tours**
Guided tours of individual exhibitions are regularly held and advertised separately. The museum staff welcome groups by appointment.

There is good access for wheelchairs in the building and at most exhibitions. You enter the museum on the ground floor. There are no steps at the entrance and doors open automatically. One wheelchair is available at the cloakroom on the ground floor. More information is available at the museum's reception desk. 

**Parking for the disabled**
There are two parking spaces for the disabled in Grófin, which is on the left side of the entrance to Hafnarhús.

**Toilets**
Toilets can be found both on the ground floor by the ticket office and on the 2nd floor by the coffee facilities. Accessible toilets are to the left of the ticket office on the ground floor and in the same place as the other toilets on the 2nd floor..

**Autism and people with sensory processing disorders**

**Stimuli**
Stimuli differ from one exhibition to the next and the reception staff is happy to provide information on what to expect in the exhibition halls. Most of the time, the museum is a quiet place to visit, but sometimes there are video works with sounds that can cause irritation. Lighting in the exhibition halls can be strong and is sometimes fluorescent.  

**Quiet spaces**
On the 2nd floor there are facilities to sit down, have a snack and rest. There is coffee and water available for guests.

**Blind and visually impaired**
You enter the museum on the ground floor. There are no steps at the entrance and the doors open automatically. There is an elevator on the ground floor of the building, opposite the staircase that is furthest from the entrance to the museum.

**Guide dogs**
Guide dogs are welcome in the museum.
