Hallsteinsgarður

In 2013, the Reykjavík Art Museum accepted a gift from artist Hallsteinn Sigurdsson to the people of Reykjavík. These were 16 aluminum sculptures, which Hallsteinn placed in the landscape of Gufunes between 1989 and 2012 and stand on a hill to the east of the old fertilizer factory in Gufunes.
Today the sculptures form a beautiful park known as Hallsteingarður where the sculptures have been enjoyed by guests and walkers, as one of Reykjavík’s biggest suburbs, Grafarvogur, expanded.
Hallsteinn Sigurðsson was born in 1945, studied at the Icelandic College of Art and Crafts between1963-66 and then at Hammersmith College and Saint Martin's School of Art in London in 1966-72. Hallsteinn Sigurðsson’s works are to be found in many museums, private collections and public spaces. He has held over a dozen solo exhibitions and participated in numerous collective exhibitions. Hallsteinsgarður is an ideal venue for schools in Grafarvogur to use for learning and playing.
In the “Reykjavík Art Walk” app you will find a fun way to navigate around Hallsteinsgarður.
