Vanitas, Still-life in Contemporary Icelandic Art

An exhibition of contemporary paintings and sculptures that may be classified as still-lifes but were not originally presented as such. By bringing these works together in a new art-historical context, the intent is to highlight certain aspects of the artists’ approach to materials and composition, but also to bring attention to the reminder of transience and renewal that is found in many of the works. Artists include Dieter Roth, Ólöf Nordal, Haraldur Jónsson, Áslaug Thorlacius, Rósa Gísladóttir, Spessi, Ólafur Gíslason, Anna Eyjólfsdóttir and Ragnhildur Stefánsdóttir.
