A mid-career retrospective exhibition of Sigurður Árni Sigurðsson. Sigurðsson has an interesting career behind him, creating different work with a coherent undertone. He has primarily reflected notions around painting and dealt with the qualities of that medium. His work is about how we view the world around us, they raise questions about the nature and limits of the field of vision and how it forms the basis of our worldview.

It is pulled between what is seen with the naked eye and also what we do not see. In the artist's work it becomes clear that our perception of the environment is notably built on how we fill in the blanks. Sigurðsson's experiments have led him on the paths of perspective and space, either through some kind of visual transitions on two-dimensional surfaces or by creating objects in 3D. Oftentimes the interplay of light and shadow is paramount and the artist is known for his works expressing shadow castings in various ways.

A comprehensive catalogue is fresh from the printer, a beautiful addition to the museum‘s ongoing series of books on significant local artists.

The mid-career retrospective of Sigurður Árni Sigurðsson is the fourth in a series at the Reykjavík Art Museum and part of the museum's efforts to record and analyze art history through extensive exhibitions and publications. It introduces artists who have made a significant contribution to the development of Icelandic art history..
