Perspectives - On the Borders of Art and Philosophy

The goal is to create a thought provoking exhibition and to generate a dialogue about the meaning of contemporary art. What unifies the exhibition is a unique collaborative approach to curating. All of the eight curators have advanced degrees in philosophy and address every aspect of the exhibition from philosophical standpoints. Preface Hafthor Yngvason (pdf) Programme: Symposium: Perspectives - On the Borders of Art and Philosophy Sunday 22 May 2 – 4 pm The symposium is held in connection with the exhibition Perspectives - On the Borders of Art and Philosophy, and will explore the relationship between visual arts and philosophy. Many artists have made works where visual/formal concerns are supplanted by philosophical questions concerning the definition of art itself. But can we say that art is philosophical? Are art and philosophy partners or adversaries, with distinct subjects and approaches? Participants are Aðalheiður Lilja Guðmundsdóttir, Gunnar J. Árnason, Gunnar Harðarson, Hafþór Yngvason, Jón Proppé, Margrét Elísabet Ólafsdóttir, Oddný Eir Ævarsdóttir and Ólafur Gíslason. The symposium will be held in Icelandic.
