A Drawing Competition

Reykjavík Art Museum has organized, for the second time, a competition for the general public now with emphasis on drawings. The competition is held in conjunction with exhibitions in which the drawing is in the foreground. Two of these are currently on display at the Hafnarhus; Erró-Drawings and Fast and slow lines - from the private collection of Petur Arason and Ragna Róbertsdóttir. The contestants were divided into two categories: primary school students (7th and 8th, 9th and 10th grade) and the general population, 16 years of age and older.

The purpose of the competition is to increase understanding, knowledge and interest on the drawing as an art form among the general public and students alike. The competition revolved around submitting a two dimentional work on paper from size A5 to A3. The subject of the drawing was optional.

A total of 114 drawings were submitted from around the country, 68 in the primary school 7th-10th grade category and 46 in the general population category. A jury of specialists in field of visual art and education selected, from each category, 30 works for the exhibition and among the selection, one entry to receive an award for best drawing.
