The goal of the event is to draw a picture of the national competitive funds that museums and their main partners can apply for and examine with reference to the working environment, the main duties of museums and the special features of individual museums - but the museums are as different as they are many. It will be examined whether and how the objectives of the museums coincide or overlap with the objectives of the funds applied for and the basic elements that often prove difficult to finance will be examined. The program is made up of short talks where the different points of view of different associations and stakeholders will be highlighted, and longer presentations where an insight into the grant environment of our neighboring countries will be provided. There will also be a panel discussion where the aim is to discuss the grant system on a broad basis, get comments and speculations about what is beneficial to museum activities and examine what can possibly be changed and improved.
The moderator of the forum is Erling Jóhannesson, chairman of BÍL - the Association of Icelandic Artists.
A more detailed program will be announced soon. The symposium is supported by the Museum Council.
