VIÐEY FRIÐEY is an exciting week‑long summer program for children aged 8–9 (born in 2017 and 2018), taking place in June in the peaceful natural gem of Viðey.The course is a collaboration between the Reykjavík Art Museum and the City History Museum.

Children explore the land and experience the history and nature of the island through creative and artistic activities, both indoors and outdoors. They get to know the old schoolhouse in Viðey, which was once part of a village that has since disappeared. The schoolhouse offers excellent facilities for experimentation and research on the island’s natural treasures, which will be used as materials for visual art projects and play. The children will also experience the environmental artworks of Richard Serra and Yoko Ono up close and create their own works in nature. Special emphasis will be placed on experiencing peace through art, play, purposeful outdoor activities, and movement.

The goal of the course is for each participant to thrive on their own terms under the guidance of professional instructors. Efforts will be made to create a friendly, device-free environment where children can enjoy themselves alongside their peers.

The instructors for the course are Guðmundur Lúðvík Þorvaldsson and Perla Hafþórsdóttir. The number of participants is limited, with a minimum of 12 children and a maximum of 15.

Three courses are offered, each lasting four days:

Course 1: 15 June – 19 June (Wednesday, 17 June, is a public holiday)
Course 2: 22 June – 25 June
Course 3: 29 June – 2 July

Price: ISK 37,000

Registration will take place on Abler. Further information will be provided later.
