Jo Pawlowska

Jo Pawlowska

Joanna Jo Pawlowska (b. 1990, they/them) is an artist and curator. They live and work in Iceland.

In their intermedia practice, Jo creates intimate, speculative, yet often playful works, where the digital sphere of the internet, digital artifacts, reimagined bodies and the physical world merge.

From 2016 Jo has been a member of art duo Brokat Films, together with painter and 3D designer Sasa Lubińska. The duo explores the relationship between text, internet narratives, digital representation and visual art, investigating dynamics between gendered bodies and aspects of human and non-human biology in the digital world. Their exhibitions are often drawing on contemporary art, internet culture, queer/trans theories and aesthetics.

They work as a cultural producer and a curator of the Hamraborg Festival, an annual art festival in Kópavogur. Between 2020-2022 they were a co-curator of Midpunkt artist-run space located in Hamraborg, Kópavogur. In 2024 they were awarded artists’ salary (listamannalaun) by Rannís, the Icelandic Centre for Research.
